How to Make Your Own Pizza Crust

How to Make Your Own Pizza Crust

February 13, 2021 Off By Lynn

Making pizza at home is fairly simple. Fellow pizza lovers probably have made many varieties of pizza at home, from pizza bread to pizza bagels to even portobello mushroom pizza. The only catch to an actual traditional pizza is that crust. Not store-bought crust. An actual freshly made-from-scratch crust. In my humble opinion, the best kind of crust.

So, fellow pizza-lover, after a month of experimenting, here is the crust I have settled on: complete with the wonderful made-from-scratch-fresh- from-oven taste! All The equipment you need is a cookie sheet (I use one similar to the medium size here) or a pizza pan and a mixing bowl!

Ingredients:

2.5 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup water

2 tsp Honey

2.25 tsp Yeast

0.5 tsp salt

Olive oil

Herbs of choice to sprinkle in (optional)

Process:

Mix 2 cups of flour together with the water, honey, yeast, and salt. The dough’s consistency will be wetter than bread dough. Add in a little more flour as you mix and knead the dough. You can also add in herbs of your choice at this point, depending on what pizza you plan to make.

Let rise for 30 minutes in a warm and moist place. I recommend covering the bowl with a moist towel and letting it sit in a slightly warmed microwave or oven.

Prepare a cookie sheet or pizza pan by covering it in parchment paper. The parchment paper keeps the pizza from sticking to the pan. I usually double the amount of parchment paper so I can also cover the pizza with the paper for cooking.

Oil on parchment paper

Spread a little olive oil on the parchment paper. Then shape the pizza crust dough on the pan. Glaze the top of the shaped dough with olive oil. Let rise until puffy (approximately 20-30 minutes depending on your temperature.)

Ready for toppings!

Place your toppings on the crust and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. It may be longer depending on your toppings.

Notes:

You can use any real-sugar product instead of honey. The sugar is needed for the yeast to eat and work. It is not for taste.

Enjoy Your Pizza!

I love this slightly fluffy crust with its crunchy side. Enjoy it topped with cheese or veggies…whatever pizza you want to make!
